Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue
Harlequin
Haven Great Dane Rescue received a call on January 24th a frantic owner
who said he had found his Great Dane in his back yard kicking and unable
to stand. He had gotten her into his house and realized she needed
medical care which he could not afford. He asked if we could help. We
recognized her symptoms immediately as seizures. He was given directions
to our vets office, All Creatures Animal Hospital in Amelia, and told to
take her there immediately. Wendy is doing much better and will now post her own updates:
My temperature is now back to normal and I
am finally off the IV fluids. I am still on many antibiotics (1 get 2
shots in the butt each day and the rest are taken orally). I love my
heated mattress pad and continue to sleep on it but no longer need to be
covered with the electric blanket although I do like being covered! This
is almost a culture shock for me since I am not used to this kind of
treatment. Grandma at the rescue said I will need to go back to the vets
office this week to have a check up but I just looked at her like she
was crazy since I do not remember being at any vets office. I am still
pretty weak and sleep 99% of the time. I want to thank all that sent
their warm wishes and prayers for my quick recovery. Well I am going
back to bed learning to use a computer is very tiring. Update February 1: I continue to improve hopefully soon I will be able to be adopted!! Until then I will continue to enjoy my soft bed and playing with my toys! Update February 23: Sorry I have not written an update but I am learning to love life! Needless to say I have made a full recovery from my near death experience. I have had tons of blood test in the past few weeks so they could monitor my progress. For the most part all is great but 1 test showed that I have a thyroid problem and I have been started on medication. I will be retested in a month or so to check the dosage then hopefully soon I will be ready for adoption. Well I would write more but I want to go play with my new toys (a good cuz and a bad cuz)! Update March 3: As soon as I am regulated on my thyroid medicine I will be available for adoption!! Update April 23: My dosage had to be changed on my thyroid medication. I will be retested in a few weeks hopefully I will then be ready for adoption! Update May 17: I now have the correct dosage for my thyroid medication and I now am ready for adoption!!! If I must say so myself I am looking great! Hopefully soon I can get Grandma to take a new picture of me so you too can see how beautiful I am!! Also, just so you know my thyroid medication will not be that expensive it can be purchased on line for under $100 per year! I will need my medication for the rest of my life! Update June 8: Of course Grandma picked the hottest day so far this year to take my picture but anyway you can see I am beautiful!!! When some people came to the rescue yesterday they commented on how beautiful I was and that I needed an updated picture!! So finally I got one!!! Please consider me when you considering adopting!!
Please can you spare a
few dollars to help the Rescue continue to help me and other Danes like
me it would be greatly appreciated. Without the rescue I know what
would have happened to me I would have ended up dead!!
