Casey
My owners bought me for a breeding
dog along with many other dogs. They did not live on the property where
we stayed. As a result there were many days we would go without food.
One day I was out in the road searching for food when a car hit me. I
was taken to the vet and a pin was put in my leg. It was supposed to
come out in a couple of months, but my owners never took me back to the
vet. After several months the pin started to work its way out through my
back.
One day a nice man came to my home, saw me, and immediately loaded me
into his truck and rushed me to the vet. At that time the pin was
sticking out over three inches. It had been over a year since it had
been put in, and every time I took a step pus would squirt out. I was so
sick that I prayed to die. The pain and fever was horrible. When I
arrived at the vet’s office I was hoping they would end my suffering,
but to my surprise they rushed me into surgery and removed the pin. That
evening when I woke up my fever was easing up and so was the pain.
The next day a nice woman came to see me. She explained that the nice
man was the Brown County Dog Warden, and she was with the Brown County
Humane Society. She promised that I would never suffer again. She also
told me that my leg would have to be amputated because the damage was
too severe. Before they could do the surgery though I had to get all of
the infection out of my body.
A couple of days later a woman from HHGDR came for me and took me
home. She gave me plenty of food and love, and she massaged my leg.
After several weeks I went back to the vet to have my leg amputated, but
the lady from the rescue argued that I had feeling in my leg. She said
that with physical therapy and time I could regain at least some use of
my leg, and I didn’t need to go through any more pain. Surprisingly
the vet agreed! It has been months now, and every day I use my leg more.
I still do not use it all of the time, but the lady here says that is
more of a habit now since I can use it especially when I want to give
people hugs. I had a wonderful summer at the rescue. I love the
air-conditioning in the summer and the heat in the winter. I have plenty
of food and a nice soft bed to lie on and lots of toys to play with. The
people at the rescue say I am now ready to find a home of my very own
where I can receive all the love that I deserve.
I still have some disability
in my leg but it does not stop me from running and playing and every day
it gets a little bit better but it may never be 100%. I love to
snuggle would love a family that would want to snuggle while we watched
TV or read a book!!
